Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade will miss the rest of the season due to a sprain and small fracture in his elbow, the Bulls announced Thursday.

Wade said after Wednesday’s 98-91 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies that he heard a couple of pops in his elbow when he went up for a layup in the third quarter.

The three-time NBA champion averaged 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in his first season with the Bulls. The former Miami Heat guard has a player option in his contract at the end of this season, meaning he could opt to become an unrestricted free agent, or return to the Bulls for a salary for $23.8 million.
