Dwyane Wade’s Cousin Shot and Killed in Chicago

Nykea Aldridge, cousin of Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade, has been shot to death on the streets of Chicago.

Police said two men approached another man who was walking with Aldridge and opened fire around 3:30 p.m. in the 6300-block of South Calumet. The shooting took place near Dulles School of Excellence.

Aldridge, 32, was struck in the head and arm. She was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead.”

Just last night, Wade was on an ESPN panel of players and sports media figures discussing violence in Chicago. He called in from Miami to offer his perspective:

This is something that didn’t start today. This is something that is not going to end tomorrow. But this is something that we can start a conversation, we can start the work today.”

Wade is not in Chicago at the moment, and has yet to comment on the tragedy.

Police have said that Aldridge was not the intended target of the shooting. The case is still under investigation.
