So far, it hasn’t worked out, with the Bulls on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
Now, the Bulls have to start considering their future. Most importantly, whether or not current franchise player Jimmy Butler is part of that future.
According to this report from Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, it sounds like Butler may not finish the season in the Windy City. And according to Lakers Nation, he could wind up playing in purple and gold instead.
Despite all this, someone may take a chance on Butler now that he is reportedly back on the trading block, according to Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher.
“But if Chicago are set on trading Butler there are really only two teams with the available assets to make a deal happen: Boston and Minnesota. Boston could offer up some package around Jae Crowder and the Brooklyn picks, while Minnesota has several young players they could put together to create an enticing option.
“Unfortunately for the Lakers, with no picks in the near future to trade, they would have to basically give up Ingram, Randle and Russell for the Bulls to even consider.”
The Bulls would certainly be interested by a package of Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, and D’Angelo Russell, but it honestly seems like more than the Lakers would want to give up.
The competing packages from Minnesota and Boston would be interesting as well. But Boston already went deep into talks with the Bulls about Butler and they fell through. And its unclear if the Wolves are ready to leverage their young talent into a current superstar.
Either way, it’s clear the Bulls want to move Butler and head into the next phase of the franchise. There are a few interesting packages out there, so we will see who is willing to commit.
